Who here going through american home schooling?
How is it going for you?
Next month i will be going through american homeschooling.
Two of my three children went through American School high school program.
They found it challenging to take the time to do the work but they both did graduate.
To complete the courses requires self discipline. My son took a chunk of time off from doing the work but as the time was growing closer in which the work had to be completed he decided that he couldn't get on the computer until he had a certain amount of work done.
They have staff who can help with work that you don't understand.
So my advice would be to plan out your work and decide how much you'll do each day to keep on track.
I wish you well with the program.

Home Schooling in australia

and to offer resources for the best text books and curriculum information that is available.
I dont understand Home Schooling?
Forgive my ignorance, as its not well known in Australia ( well at least not the part I live in ).
How can 'ordinary' mum or dads, just teach the kids?
What about Maths? Now I know not everyone is good at Maths ...........How do you teach it, if you dont know it?
Science? How can you broaden your childs education if you dont know everything about all subjects that would be offered at 'real school'.
Im talking about as they get older in high school ages.
Im just curious!
How do ordinary moms or dads teach their children to tie their shoes? Count to 10? Make their beds? Cook a meal? If ordinary parents can do that, can't they also teach their child the sounds of the alphabet? How to write the letters? How to add 5 and 6? Or even how to multiply 5 by 6?
Math? I'm sure most parents can handle early math just fine. After that, there are GREAT resources out there that do the teaching so that parents don't have to. I actually know one mom whose son is 12 and she just feels incapable of teaching him math and hasn't found a good text for him, so she's hired a math tutor.
Science? The library is full of science books that will cover everything and much more for grades 1-9 for sure (ages roughly 6-14). For high school, those who are getting diplomas where I live tend to use the same textbooks as the schools do and find supplemental resources as needed.
Teachers don't know everything about all the subjects being offered in schools either. I don't know how it works in Australia, but here, the programs get changed every 7-10 years so the teachers are regularly having to learn new content, along with their students. My own teachers in high school were sometimes really bad--I had one who gave us a practice exam for the government exams we were going to be doing and he couldn't even do some of the questions. I ended up just learning from the textbook in that class (not that anything he wrote on the board wasn't already in the textbook). Most Homeschooled high school kids are fairly independent and know how to learn; they don't need to have someone there "teaching" them. Think about it: if you wanted to learn more about some topic, let's say the history of South America, would you have to hire a teacher to be able to learn about it? Or would you know how to look for different resources and learn from them?

Homeschooling military

and to offer resources for the best text books and curriculum information that is available.
How much should I charge for homeschooling a kindergartener?
I am homeschooling my 1st grader and someone in my neighborhood needs someone to home school her son who will be in kindergarten. We live on a base where the only option for school is the DODS school which is free for military families, but this lady is a contractor so she has to pay $30,000 per year for her son to attend this school and she can't afford it. This is my first year homeschooling and I have 2 other small kids of my own, but one spends a few hour at day school during instruction time. If I decide to home school her son, how much should I charge for 4 hrs or less of instruction per day Mon-Thur? What if she also needs me to keep a few extra hours after instruction time?
First, find out if it's legal.
Before undertaking such an endeavor, be very sure before starting that you two moms are on the same page concerning curriculum, discipline, spiritual values, health/safety issues, everything that could come up at any time that could cause a squabble between you.
I think in this circumstance (which I know very little about all the circumstances of this situation), I'd figure out a rate that's just a tad more than plain babysitting. Also, who buys the educational materials? What if she picks something you find too difficult to use? What about cost of meals/snacks? What happens when somebody gets sick -- if you are sick, or your child is sick, or if her child is sick, etc. Is she expecting some sort of grade report? There are SO many things to xonsider!
