I do not have any children, however I teach and tutor them. I started up a program for families in need. I have about 50 kids that I enrolled in my program, and I tutor them in areas that they are having trouble with. I offer help in Math, English/Language Arts, Science, U.S. History, Social Studies, Geography, Spanish and Test Prep/Study Skills. All of my services are provided ABSOLUTELY free of charge.
I also donate and provide backpacks full of school supplies to children whose families cannot afford them, and I also pack a week's worth of bag lunches with the kids one night a week at my house so that they can take them to school and have something nutritious to eat for lunch and snacks. I also make sure that they have plenty to drink because so many children are not getting adequately hydrated in schools these days (I work in nursing and I see sick school-aged kids all of the time and too too many of them come in extremely dehydrated) and teachers aren't paying good enough attention to this issue. But that's a whole separate ballgame.
Anyway, I started this program BECAUSE I believe schools are outrageous with their demands for fees and supplies and "suggestions" for donations and such. The supply lists they send home to parents/guardians are outrageous, extensive and very costly. Also, some schools even have programs in classrooms where they want to either have breakfast, snack times or "milk breaks". This is a great idea and all, but it's not if families have to PAY for all of these things. It's not fair for the children whose families cannot afford it. Why should some children have to sit in class and watch other kids have snacks, breakfasts, juices and milks when they have none? Schools should not allow this to happen. They should either provide snacks and drinks for every child, or get rid of the "program" altogether. Some families cannot even afford to send their children to school with adequate lunches (by absolutely NO FAULT of their own), let alone with money for extra snacks, juice and milk! Give these people a break. It's simply not fair.
And don't even get me started on book fairs, plant sales, craft fairs, Christmas gift sales and things like that. (Most of these proceeds do not go 100% to the schools, and if they don't, in my opinion anyway, they shouldn't have them. And some families cannot afford to send their children with money for these things as I've said before, so why should some children feel left out? These are not NECESSARY things. The focus here should be on EDUCATION, not begonias!!!!)
THEREFORE, for these reasons, I started this program. Tutoring is incredibly expensive (especially if you turn to one of those Sylvan learning centers or something - sheesh!) the price of school lunches really adds up (not to mention, you really don't know if what your child is eating is nutritious at all), and school supply costs (plus those little "extra" fees they like to slide in there all of the time with those notes they send home asking for $5 here, $10 there what seems like every gosh darn week!) add up very, VERY fast.
I believe that every child is entitled to a more than decent education, no child should ever go hungry, and no child should suffer emotional distress because s/he is watching another child get something that they cannot have in school, where children are supposed to be focusing on education, not getting their feelings hurt because some of the other kids have a juicebox and s/he doesn't (schools should not even be supporting this). Schools go on and on and on about equality and fairness....but what I described above is not fair or equal at all.
And just for the record, I live on a very strict budget as so so many families do. I do my best to clip coupons and buy in bulk for the kids and I get all of my teaching supplies at the dollar store. Sometimes I get lucky and find extra supplies (like newspapers, magazines, paper, half-used notebooks, etc.) tossed out in recycling bins and things like that.
I just wanted to let all of the parents out there know that even though I don't have children of my own, I understand how much of a dent school costs can put into your wallet and I'm really trying to help make the load a little lighter for as many families as I can.
So, does ANYONE agree that schools are asking (and sometimes even demanding!) way too much? And that the costs are just outrageous? I'd love some feedback on this!!!!

My parents split when i was 6, and i know that happens all the time, but the blame goes completely on my son-of-a-bitch father, he was always having these "email friends" and at the time (being only 6) i thought that was all it was. but later i realised he was constantly cheating on my mom, she would work all day and he would just sit in front of the computer, and then he wouldnt do any housework or the like. now, i was perfectly happy pretending he didnt exist, but then about 2 years ago my mom died, and ive been forced to live with him since. him and my 2 brothers. my older brother hates the world, and thinks he is better then everyone else. my younger brother has a learning disability, and im stuck taking care of myself. at the moment, we are living off of survivour benifits and money from my father's pain-in-the-ass parents. and my dad doesnt really know the meaning of "home-school" he seems to think it means the student teaches themselves, which i do, since he is busy with my bro.

Home was through the scientific journal given to me by my brother when I was child and that was contains a range of scientific topics diverse, but what caught my attention and intrigued me was the subject of the layers of the atmosphere with information about each layer, especially with respect to temperature and the types of gases. This aroused in me a passion and loves for this science and the fact the atmosphere. I became every now and then seized the opportunities to buy some magazines, books or articles about the nature of the atmosphere. That was the beginning of my interest in the Atmospheric Sciences.
I am a social human and I like to socialize with others and get to know people from other cultures to enrich my experience and improve my relationships with people around me. Also I consider myself lucky to be born into a family cultured and educated, with social values and high degree of care and responsibility, which was and is still great supporters to face all challenges and obstacles.
I was year after year, increases my love and my passion for science and knowledge. After 2003 and the opening of Iraq to the age of technology, Internet and satellite television had a significant role in enriching my knowledge through follow up reports and scientific research visible and audible, especially in atmospheric sciences and on the contents of this science wonderful secrets of massive and accurate in his regime and his big role in the preservation of life on the planet.
So I decided after completing the study in the school to entry the university and study science atmosphere. There I continued the discretionary in the study and excellence. I was succeeded with distinction in every year of study with the order of the first student on the department, drawing the admiration of faculty in the department and encouraged me to do more and gave me advice and guidance and a lot of sources in order to be more understanding of this specialize. That was a reason to increase my determination to succeed Throughout the four years of study Which culminated in me getting a bachelor's degree with honors and with The rank of the first student of the College., which nominated me to obtain a full scholarship by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Iraq to obtain the Master degree.
Through my studies at university I did some research, the most important of these is the Graduation's research, which was entitled "Collection of WMO Programs", which obtained the degree of excellence and praise from the head of the department and several Professors. Through this research I focused on four main programs of the ten programs of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) discussed their components, objectives, activities and the relationship with each other and with other organizations. As well as research papers such that "Global Climate Change”, “Cloud Nuclei" and "Geostrophic wind".
I am very interested to study the atmospheric sciences in your university (... ... ... ... ..). My optional for applying to your university is not arbitrarily, but came after discussions with several professors in the department as well as with some of my relatives who have studied in USA and they advised me to apply in your respectable university. After my visit to the website of the University and take important information about the university and access to the department(... ... ..) and took the idea of lessons, teaching faculty and Correspondence some of them, I became sure that your university is the best place for me to achieve my goals and ambitions and I will be proud to join you and take advantage of great wealth of knowledge and scientific progress that characterizes your university and I will make every effort possible to be a part of those who contribute to advancing progress forward to the service of humanity.
I am interested in the field of research (Climate Change) and It is no secret to anyone how is important, especially in recent years and which it accompanied by escalation and international uproar and it became the focus of attention of many scientists and researchers even politicians and world leaders, after Come outcries about the future of life on Earth. Through this research I will work on a comprehensive study of this phenomenon, trying to develop optimal solutions to which can be implemented on the ground. Especially after the emergence of many solutions that do not fit with the size of the problem and difficult to implement at the global scale, where the problem is not international or regional but it global, and must be dealt with on this basis.
My goals after I getting a master's degree is to return to Iraq and to complete my career in science and get PhD Degree and work in the field of teaching and that of the urgent need for such specialization in my country. I will also do scientific researches in my field at all levels, international and

I went to this "school" for three years.(95-98). i'm(very belatedly) trying to finish things at a supposedly better Home School called James Madison High School. I need my transcripts so I can know where I need to start again. If anyone can help me get in contact with them, I would be indebted. Btw, has anyone heard of this JMHS? It sounds a little TOO good. Thank you very much.

My wife sent a card in from a magazine a while back, and we got a call from a guy talking about this program. Supposedly, we'll get $6000 worth of educational materials for about $1800, payable in installments.
I'm a born skeptic, so I'm a little leery, especially when the guy told me that it is an "exclusive" program, and that "no one ever has opted out once they've joined". Those all sound like buzzwords to get the sale to me.
I haven't been able to find any information about this program online, and I've searched high and low. All I know is it's called the "Child Readiness Program", and it's funded by Industrial Acceptance Corporation (IAC) out of Connecticut.
I'd really like to know what's up with this. My wife is excited about the possibility of this program helping to educate my autistic son, but she's leaving the final decision up to me once I finish my research.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
